Gail;
Aside from GM's submittal to the Dandom Digest, I also had to include
your post from the Blue in the just out Dandom Digest (sans a
reference to another blue post). Also great.
Many thanks and best wishes to all.
Jim

Subject: SPOILEResque/OPINION: Steely Dan,"life-changing"
I haven't been able to get Your Gold Teeth outta my head for
days. For me, that was the stellar 2011 addition to an already
fantastic live line-up. I know that some of you think we are chumps
for taking whatever they throw at us with ne're a complaint. I still
contend that they know the music best.
Having said that, I appreciate the effort the band gives to play
the best damn music on this planet and still take some chances for
the us, the die-hards. (Even if the Jack of Speed thing Saturday
night was a train-wreck...as someone posted earlier, that might have
been the REAL rarity...a train-wreck played by the Steely Dan band,
whodathunkit?)
Dr. Wu on Saturday was the best I've heard. Third World Man on
Friday was sublime. I sobbed through Boston Rag on Wednesday. Jeezus
F--cking Christ, People! And, as far as the extended band intros
taking 15 minutes, I think that is an act of appreciation for each
band member, so I don't mind. (I recently got introduced in open
court by one of the big guys in my firm and I'll tell you what, it
was cool to be acknowleged in that way, even for a nobody like me.)
And look on the bright side. It gives everyone time for that much
needed pee-break, eh.
My experiences with following this band have been life-changing.
Some good, some bad, never indifferent....even if I have heard Aja,
Peg and Josie 40 times. I still get up and shake my ass and enjoy
every freaking second of it. So, I guess some of us will just have to
agree to disagree.
It was great to see so many friendly faces in NYC, even if we
just got to say, "Hi, how are you?" and not much else. Thanks to
hoops for keeping the light on here. On my way out of NYC on Sunday,
I walked past the Wellington, which is where some of us first met, lo
those many years ago, and I almost went in to see if the internet
station was still there. It was our connection to the Bluebook in
2003 and we had such a great time recording our adventures that
year--before most of us had laptops and, some of us, cell phones.
Now, how can I make one of those last shows out west, before the
Downuder boys get their fix?
