 Tonight was a fine start to the Beacon series, IMHO. This was my first show there and from where we sat (near the soundboard, but house right and under the lower balcony by a few rows) I thought the sound was good. The crowd was pretty energetic, particularly for Rikki and MOS (crowd sing-alongs) and Bodhisattva (major standing ovation). 

 Walter's guitar work on both Rikki and TOOM was outstanding, as it was later when he and Jon trades solos on Boston Rag. Walter spent a lot of time with a red-bodied guitar I do not recall seeing before. Possibly this is the instrument discussed a few weeks ago by another poster. The rest of the band was as tight as ever, i.e., exceptional. Completely unexpected was Pearl Of The Quarter; I have to confess that one brought a tear to my eye. While I have to admit to some disappointment about the songs dropped from the setlist, I was still very glad to be in the house tonight.

Regarding the Danfest, the turnout was a bit smaller than I expected, or possibly we just didn't make contact with everyone. My wife and I did meet up with Reidar, Girl Margaret and Danfiend at/outside the Amsterdam Ale House. After the show, through Girl Margaret and Danfiend, we also saw LWO, Suedave and David, Ladybayside, and some others whose names escape me at the moment. 

One thing I discovered today about the Amsterdam Ale House is that to sit at a table (inside at least) you have to order food. At some hour this policy is dropped, but at that point one also has to get his/her own drinks from the bar.
