Le Bar Bat, Cover: $15

Legendary bassist Chuck Rainey has recorded with everyone from Louis Armstrong to Marvin Gaye to Paul Simon, but is best known for his work with Steely Dan.("Pretzel Logic," "The Royal Scam," "Katy Lied," "Aja," "Gaucho," and "The Nightfly"). His work with Rick Marotta on "Peg" is still referred to today as the definitive groove.

Joining Chuck is guitarist Elliott Randall. Elliott is probably best known for his riveting guitar solo on "Reelin' in the Years". A solo considered by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page to be his favorite of all time.

Tycoon Dog is a new band that features keyboardist Malcolm "YGK" Hunter, a regular of the "Under the Banyon Trees" Internet guestbook.

A Tribute to the Music of Steely Dan
11:30 pm, Le Bar Bat
Cover: $20 ($10 with Internet Coupon)

From San Diego, the award winning tribute band "The Steely Damned" performing songs from all eight Steely Dan albums and Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly". This is the band Walter Becker favorably commented about on Steely Dan's PBS special. All 15 band members are flying in from San Diego. The Steely Damned's Bob Tedde (leader) and "Peg" may be known to regulars of the
"Under the Banyon Trees" Internet guestbook.

Bernard Purdie, who played drums on "Babylon Sisters", "Kid Charlemagne", and many other classic Steely Dan songs will be sitting in with The Steely Damned on Friday March 23rd. Bernard will be doing the "Purdie Shuffle" on these legendary tunes. If you really want to get psyched, go put on the "Making of 'Aja'" Documentary, and watch "The Hit Maker" in action.

Mr. Blues Brother himself, "Blue Lou" Marini, is filling in on tenor sax. Marini has worked with anybody and everybody, including Donald Fagen on "Kamakiriad," and Steely Dan on their Grammy-winning "Album of The Year," "Two Against Nature." In the early 1990s, Fagen penned the composition "Blue Lou" specifically for Marini and Marini recorded it with the Joe Roccissano Orchestra as part of the critically acclaimed soundtrack of the film version of "Glengarry Glen Ross".

Birch Johnson will be filling in on trombone. Birch played on Fagen's "Kamakiriad" sessions and is responsible for that great trombone solo on "Teahouse on the Tracks".

On bari and tenor sax, Gary Blu will be sitting in. He wrote out the charts for the horn section on the last four Steely Dan tours, and he's also a great player himself. Gary played with The Steely Damned at Le Bar Bat the last time they were here

"(The Steely Damned) perform eerily accurate renditions of virtually every Steely Dan song"
--Rolling Stone

"If you're a Steely Dan fan, this show is not to be missed"
